There are artists whose work you admire, and then there are artists whose passion leaves a lasting impression.
Landscape painter Caprice Hogg, who lives in Kimberley, British Columbia, is one of those people.
An accomplished oil painter, teacher, writer, and co founder of Caprice Fine Art & Co Inc, Caprice first picked up a paintbrush in 1994.
Since then, art has become the centre of her life. Travelling throughout Canada has shaped her vision, but it is the landscapes of western Canada that continue to inspire her most.
Surrounded by mountains, forests, and ever changing light/seasons, she creates paintings that reflect both the grandeur and quiet beauty of the natural world.
Over many years I have had the pleasure of watching Caprice grow into an exceptional artist and dedicated teacher.
Whether she is teaching from her home studio or connecting with students online, her enthusiasm for painting is infectious.
Her weekly classes and monthly lectures are about far more than technique. She encourages her students to discover the expressive qualities of oil paint while embracing the unexpected moments that often become the most rewarding part of the creative process.
Caprice's original paintings now hang in private and corporate collections across Canada, and she has built lasting relationships with many of those who have welcomed her work into their homes.
She also creates beautifully considered commission pieces inspired by the Canadian landscape.
I was fortunate to spend time with Caprice in her studio, and even more fortunate that our friendship has continued ever since. I only wish we lived a little closer.
Through every challenge life has presented, she has remained true to her art. Her generosity as a teacher, her commitment to her students, and her unwavering passion for painting are qualities that deserve recognition.
